More than 2,000 a day attend Killarney mission

Thousands blessed at annual mission

A parish mission in Killarney Cathedral run by the Redemptorists and regularly attended by the Bishop of Kerry, attracted a crowd of more than 2,000 people a day.

The Redemptorist Mission team consisting of Frs Derek Ryan and Seamus Enright and lay missioner Niamh O’Neill, facilitated a week of prayer and preaching at Killarney Cathedral. About 600 people attended the morning Mass and an average of 1,200-1,500 people attended the evening liturgies. Later morning Masses were also held in the Friary, the Church of the Resurrection and Muckross.

All the primary and secondary school children in the community attended church during the week of mission for Eucharist or a prayer service.

Bishop Ray Browne attended both sessions every day and brought the mission to a close at the end of the week. At the closing ceremony, he blessed water taken from the various rivers and lakes in the parish, which was then used to bless everyone in the church as a reminder of their baptismal promises.
