Businessman prays regularly
Entrepreneur and businessman Ben Dunne has revealed that faith has sustained him throughout his often turbulent life.
Speaking during an interview with Miriam on Sunday on RTÉ radio last weekend, the businessman, whose name is indelibly linked with leading political names of the 1980s and the political corruption of the era recalled his life within the dynasty behind the Dunnes Stores empire, his kidnapping at the hands of the IRA and later arrest in the United States for cocaine possession.
Asked finally, after such dramatic episodes, if he had faith, Mr Dunne quickly agreed stating: “Oh yes, belief belief belief.”
Direct line
Joking that “I have a direct line” to God, Dunne revealed that he has a strength of faith that God is there for him. “I know him very well and speak to him a lot.”
Pressed on this, the businessman offered the words to his own prayer he regularly recites: “So far all my days have been followed by more nights but in this busy world of mine, a night will come when there will be no more day for me. A newspaper notice or a few days of mourning and the tides of time shall flow over me. My work is finished. Look after me, my Lord.”
Now 65, Dunne revealed he is in a more stable phase of life today as he heads up his latest enterprise, the Ben Dunne chain of gyms.
