The serious challenge posed to Catholic schools by a proposed new curriculum on religious education will be the theme for a special iCatholic livestream early next week.
On Monday, March 14 at 8pm iCatholic will host a live panel discussion about the NCCA proposal to introduce Education about Religions and Beliefs and Ethics into the primary school curriculum in the Republic, otherwise known as ERB and Ethics.
Challenges
Speaking about the livestream, Fr Bill Kemmy from iCatholic said: “We believe that the NCCA proposal presents very serious challenges for Catholic primary schools. Therefore we want to do our best on iCatholic to bring it to the attention of parents, teachers, Board of Management members, priests and principals.
Our title for the programme is ‘Keeping Faith in Religious Education’. The concern is that the ERB proposal very clearly puts no faith in religion. If the ERB proposal goes ahead unchecked, many believe that the identity and integrity of our faith schools will be seriously undermined. So it is vital that we get to grips with it and offer a better alternative for our faith schools.”
People can send their questions / comments to live@iCatholic.ie. The livestream can be watched at iCatholic.ie/live and it will also be available to watch back on demand.
