Msgr Colm McCaughan RIP

The death has taken place of Msgr Colm McCaughan, former Chancellor of the Diocese of Down & Connor. He was 89. Born in 1927 in Ballycastle, Co. Antrim, Colm began his studies for the priesthood in 1946 and was ordained in 1954. He assumed his first appointment as curate in Bangor. Fr McCaughen subsequently became Ecclesiastical Inspector and Diocesan Advisor for primary and post-primary schools across Down & Connor. In 1993 he was appointed Diocesan Chancellor, serving both Bishops Patrick Walsh and Noel Treanor until his retirement in 2009. 

 

Fr George Doherty RIP

The Diocese of Derry has announced the death of Fr George Doherty, who died on Christmas Day at the age of 87. Born in 1929 in Carndonagh, Co. Donegal, after schooling at St Columb’s College, Derry, George became a seminarian for the diocese. Following ordination, Fr Doherty was placed all over Northern Ireland, including Donagheady, Dungiven and Killyclogher, as well as a number of parishes within Donegal. He retired in 2004.

His funeral Mass took place at the Star of the Sea Church, Desertegney, Buncrana.

 

Feast of St Charles at Mount Argus

Mass for the Feast of St Charles will take place at the Church of St Paul of the Cross, Mount Argus, Dublin on Wednesday, January 4, 7.30-8.30 pm. The celebration will be followed by Blessing with the Relic of St Charles, Thursday, January 5 at 10am.
