Government pensions plan is a missed opportunity
Campaigners have called for the introduction of a universal pension in Ireland, in response to the failure of the Government’s new pensions plan to address “major issues around equity, sustainability and bureaucracy”.
A Universal State Social Welfare Pension, published by Social Justice Ireland analyses Ireland’s pension system and offers a fully costed proposal for the introduction of a universal pension based on residency, not social insurance contributions.
Catholic video welcoming gay parents ‘corrected’
A video promoting the World Meeting of Families this August has been removed because of its apparent endorsement of same-sex marriages and same-sex people raising children. In the now-removed video on the amoris.ie website, entitled Parish Conversations Sessions 1, the auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles David O’Connell, had said: “Today there are all sorts of configurations of families – mum and dad; mum or dad on their own; gay couple raising children; people in second marriages.”
