The Church in Nigeria has praised the decision to recall 3,032 soldiers dismissed by the previous military authorities.
Msgr Gabriel Osu, Director of Social Communications in the Archdiocese of Lagos, described the army’s decision as “a morale booster that would encourage troops fighting the insurgents in the northeastern part of the country to do their best”.
The reinstated soldiers were dismissed from the army last year for alleged indiscipline during a campaign against Islamist Boko Haram militants. Over the last six years the Boko Haram insurgency has left at least 15,000 dead, including more than 50 at a bomb attack on Monday, September 21, in the city of Maiduguri, and has displaced over two million others.
