Dear Editor, As the homelessness crisis intensifies with another unnecessary death on the streets of Dublin I suggest, following Pope Francis’ suggestion regarding the current refugee crisis, that every Christian parish in Ireland would either house a homeless person or adopt such a person by providing decent accommodation for them. The professionals in all the homeless agencies could provide adequate training and supervision for such participating parishes in this commitment.
Each pastoral council could place this suggestion on their agenda for their next meeting and begin a necessary conversation on making our parishes not just liturgical centres but exemplars of justice.
Yours etc.,
Brendan Butler,
Malahide, Co. Dublin
