Australian Cardinal George Pell has provided full passport details to disprove allegations that have been made against him.
Paul Lyons, a 55-year-old survivor of sexual abuse by Robert Best, a member of the Christian Brothers has claimed that in 1969 Dr Pell, who was then a young priest, heard him pleading for help some weeks after he had been raped.
Cardinal Pell denies this, saying that he was not in Australia at the time, and Mr Lyons, who has previously made the same claims at a Victorian parliamentary enquiry into child abuse, challenged the cardinal to prove this by producing his passport.
The cardinal has given the Herald Sun newspaper access to a copy of his full passport showing his travel between the 1960s and 1970s, proving that he was studying in Oxford at the time Mr Lyons says he was abused at St Alipius Primary School in Ballarat.
