Speaking at Pax Christi seminars in Dublin and Belfast on ‘The Challenge of Peace in the 21st Century’, Senator Douglas Roche of Canada encouraged all present never to give up on peace but to build a future for humanity despite the dangerous setbacks we are witnessing today.
He said that a huge amount of good work is going on around the world which we do not hear about and that civil society must engage with governments to secure a just and peaceful future for our world.
Speaking at the Dublin seminar, Noel Dorr, former Secretary-General of the Department of Foreign Affairs, spoke about the work of the United Nations and the challenges it faces to be an effective instrument to translate the aspiration of the Charter of the UN for a peaceful world.
Senator Roche met many leaders in Belfast who have worked for peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland, including Nobel Laureate Mairead Corrigan.
