Guide identifies candidates’ stance on life issues
The Pro Life Campaign (PLC) is offering an online guide to the stance on life issues of each of the European election candidates hoping to top the polls this Friday, May 23.
Spurred by what the organisation has described as the “many candidates eager to present themselves as ‘pro-life’, sometimes without any previous track record”, the PLC submitted four questions to each candidate towards a complete listing of candidates and their attitudes to the abortion issue. Those PLC asked:
As a Member of the European Parliament, and notwithstanding the position of your political party (if applicable) will you:
(i) vote against abortion at every opportunity.
(ii) vote against destructive embryonic stem cell research at every opportunity.
(iii) work with like-minded MEPS to advance the protection of life at all stages across Europe
(iv) work towards the repeal of the abortion legislation introduced in Ireland in 2013
“We have to face the fact that a majority of the electorate still don’t know what exactly was voted through last year,” the PLC said in a statement announcing the list. “Rectifying this is a challenge for both candidates and the movement as a whole in the future. But by spreading the word on the stances of candidates and parties over the next two days, we can start to make a real difference.”
