Paul KeenanPoland – The Catholic bishops of the country has offered an official apology for the abuse of children by predatory clerics. Insisting that the modern Church has made progress in ensuring the safety of children, the bishops stated: “We apologise for those clergy who have harmed children and are doing everything in our power so such situations are not repeated in future.
“We offer and will continue to offer pastoral and therapeutic help to harmed children and young people, and we stress there is no tolerance for paedophilia.”
Pointing out that child abuse had been uncovered in areas of Polish life beyond the Church, the bishops added to their message a call for “thorough education” to better protect children.
