Mags GarganPop star Ronan Keating has revealed that he accidently head butted Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI on a Vatican trip.
The former Boyzone singer told the Daily Mirror Weekend magazine that his “most embarrassing moment” came in 2011 when he met Pope Benedict during a visit to the Vatican.
“When greeting the Pope I was meant to kiss the papal ring – but I head-butted his hand instead. He just laughed at me,” he said.
The singer, who grew up in a Catholic family in Dublin, has spoken in the past of how his faith helped him through his mother’s death. However, he said the death of his bandmate Stephen Gately had shaken his faith.
“I’ve had moments where I’ve questioned. I didn’t understand – I don’t understand. I’m angry. I’m upset. My friend’s gone,” he said.
“I’m a believer. It’s just hard.”
