Pope Francis meets with Trócaire staff in Kenya

During Pope Francis’ official visit to Kenya last Friday he met with Trócaire’s Country Director, Paul Healy and Programme Officer for Gender Based Violence and HIV, Catherine Khamali, in Kangemi slum, Nairobi.

“In what was a very moving moment, the Pope was addressed by Pamela Akwede (a peace worker with a Trócaire partner organisation), who spoke of the pressures and burdens of slum dwellers as they try to eke out a living on the margins of society,” said Paul Healy.

Sr Mary Killeen, an Irish Sister of Mercy, also addressed the Pontiff on behalf of slum dwellers in Mukuru about how the poor are being deprived of any rights to land.
