Pope Francis has urged Catholics to work for an end to modern-day slavery in his message to mark World Day of Peace, January 1.
With the Global Slavery Index estimating there are nearly 30 million people worldwide living in slave-like conditions, Pope Francis said, “We are facing a global phenomenon which exceeds the competence of any one community or country. In order to eliminate it, we need a mobilisation comparable in size to that of the phenomenon itself.”
