The Pro Life Campaign (PLC) has called for a massive show of support for its National Vigil for Life next month against “political promise-breaking and groupthink” on the issue of abortion.
As it gears up to welcome busloads of participants from all parts of Ireland for the May 3 event, a spokesperson for the PLC told The Irish Catholic it is “important for people to attend the vigil because abortion is now legal in Ireland”.
“We said last year that the vigils back then were the start of something positive, not the end of the pro-life movement. Each committed pro-life person has a responsibility to follow through on this.”
On the ability of such gatherings as the vigil to turn back Ireland’s abortion legislation, the spokespaerson said: “There are lots of good reasons for hope. The fact that countries like Poland and Spain have turned the tide against abortion should give us great courage and confidence.
“I sincerely hope the vigil will be a day when pro-life people from all over Ireland recommit to this noble cause. The right to life is the defining issue of our time. We have to persevere together for what is right.”
The National Vigil for Life takes place at Dublin’s Merrion Square from 3pm-4pm on May 3. To organise a bus or to find buses in your area, phone: Maria 086 406 9660, Denise 087 266 8702 or Katie 085 871 1100.
