Dear Editor, I think it is probably important that we mark the death of Canon Mark Diamond, who died on the feast day of Saint Muredach.
At a time in the history of Christianity in Ireland which currently seems to be punctuated by a corrosive secular view of the dignity of mankind, he at all
times strove to focus his efforts on helping us understand a common dignity which supersedes partisan influence. To this end, he constantly engaged in trying to build up an understanding between ‘people of good faith’ through his many ecumenical outreaches.
On a personal level, when I first enrolled in the Newman Institute in 2001, his sister Joan and he adopted me as part of their family. I have never wanted for anything since. May his memory rest in peace.
Yours etc.,
Ciaran Sherry,
Ballina,
