Dear Editor, I noted with great interest the biography of Daniel Mannix reported on in The Irish Catholic of August 11 (‘Archbishop Mannix biography scoops literary prize’). I will certainly be seeking out my own copy of this record of a most fascinating figure. Given, however, that the biography has been penned by a native Australian, I remain hopeful that the archbishop’s massive contribution to the Church in Ireland is afforded the level of coverage required equal to, if not greater than, his time in Melbourne. Failing that, perhaps now is the time for the Irish Church to acknowledge one of its greats and offer the world his inspiring story.
Yours etc.,
Peggy Byrne,
Phibsborough, Dublin 7.
