A Co. Louth priest has raised €6,500 for Trócaire’s Lenten campaign after completing a sponsored ‘Bann to Boyne’ run.

Fr Gerry Campbell, the Armagh Diocesan Representative for Trócaire, set off from St Treasa’s Church, Newbridge Parish in Co. Derry on Sunday, March 13 and finished at St Peter’s Church, Drogheda on Wednesday, March 16.

He ran an average of 22 miles per day, stopping at churches along the route and entering through two Holy Doors for the Year of Mercy.

Trócaire’s Kevin Donnelly said “Fr Gerry is a terrific example of someone who literally goes the extra mile to raise funds for our work”.

“This is the second time he has undertaken this daunting ‘Bann to Boyne’ challenge for Trócaire as well as running the Dublin marathon for us in 2015. Fr Gerry’s running has raised over €22,000 for Trócaire, €6,500 so far this Lent alone.”
