School site to be developed for community

A Belfast parish priest has welcomed the decision to develop the site of a former Catholic secondary school for the use of the two local parish communities as a “real win-win for all concerned”.

The Diocese of Down and Connor has announced that the Flax Trust, which focuses on reconciliation through economic development, will take over responsibility for the site of St Gemma’s High School, which was closed down in 2013 due to declining enrolments.

The site will now be developed to meet urgent community needs following discussions between the diocese, community organisations and elected representatives in the parishes of Sacred Heart and Holy Cross Ardoyne.
