The Catholic Grandparents Association (CGA) has begun a search for the longest married couples in Ireland.
The CGA are looking for couples who have been married for more than 65 years, and their advice on staying happily married.
The successful couples will be invited to the Annual National Grandparents Pilgrimage on September 14 in Knock, to be given a special blessing by the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Brown. The longest married couple will also be provided with a dinner, bed and breakfast at Knock House Hotel at a date of their choice.
Catherine Wiley, Founder of the CGA said the association would like to “focus on the positive aspects of marriage and family life, and we feel sure that the wisdom and advice we receive from those who have stuck with it through thick and thin will be encouraging and motivating for young couples”.
Every year CGA honour the oldest grandparent, and this year it will be Mr John Lambert who will be 107 in October and celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
The closing date for applications is September 7. Contact 098 24877, email catholicgrandparents@gmail.com or by post to The Catholic Grandparents Association, Castlebar Street, Westport, Co. Mayo.
