Ahead of the annual national grandparents’ pilgrimage to Knock Shrine in Co. Mayo, the search is on for the country’s oldest Catholic grandparents.
The Catholic Grandparents Association (CGA) has issued an invitation for the oldest grandparents and longest married couple to attend the 17th annual pilgrimage which is due to he held at the national Marian shrine on September 8.
On that day, thousands of grandparents from all over Ireland are expected to travel to Knock. Many people travel with their grandchildren, and last year some 10,000 people attended the Mass in the basilica.
The Catholic Grandparents Association aims to highlight the role of older people in passing on the faith in the wider family circle.
The deadline for entries into the grandparent search is August 30.
