The Church in Scotland has decided not to pursue a merger that would see its Rome-based seminarians study for the priesthood alongside Irish seminarians.
A spokesman for the Church in Scotland confirmed to The Irish Catholic that consideration had been given to a potential amalgamation between the Pontifical Scots College and the Pontifical Irish College, both based in Rome.
“Consideration was given to sharing a building with the Irish College but it has been decided not to pursue this option,” the spokesman said.
Consideration
“Currently, consideration is being given to the possibility of moving from the college from its present site to one closer to the heart of the city and the universities which the students attend.
“The bishops continue to review the site of the Scots College which will remain as the seminary for the training of priests for Scotland wherever it may be in the city of Rome,” he added.
