Sligo parishes take over shop unit

Second annual Festival of Faith for Sligo Parishes Cluster

Shoppers in Sligo town received a surprise this week, with the Sligo Parishes Cluster taking over a retail unit in a shopping centre to promote their Festival of Faith.

Unit 19 in Johnston Court was a hub of activity last weekend as families came to visit the cluster’s information centre and gallery, which featured an art competition for local national school children. Colette Furlong, catechist and festival coordinator, said the festival had received a great response so far, and the announcement of Fr Kevin Doran as the new Bishop of Elphin had created an extra sense of excitement during the preparations.

The Vincentians Ember Mission Team is leading the festival in reflection, celebration and song until May 23, which includes three pilgrimages to heritage sites.

The cluster of Sligo parishes includes Strandhill, Rosses Point, Ransboro, St Anne’s and Carraroe, the Friary, the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, St Joseph’s and Calry.
