Youth workers for the Dublin archdiocese took a novel approach to evangelisation kick-starting Lent this year. The diocese’s youth evangelisation team took to the streets outside the newly opened St Paul’s church on Arran Quay inviting people in to receive ashes on Ash Wednesday.
The team promoted the event using the hashtag #AshtagWednesday on social media and had the slogan on a chalkboard outside St Paul’s church in the heart of Dublin’s city centre.
Michelle Manley of the diocese’s youth evangelisation team told The Irish Catholic that the initiative was “very successful” and “a lot of young workers came in off the streets during their lunch breaks”.
“It was opened up to the public for a couple of hours to come in, have a tea or a coffee, to get some ashes and go into the church for a prayer. We came up with a cool slogan to try to attract people using social media trends,” she said.
