Over 40 students rallied together in a school to fight off hunger to raise awareness and funds for the homeless crisis in Ireland. Transition Year students in Ennis’ Rice College took part in a school sleep in and a 24-hour fast earlier this month to collect money for the Mid-West Simon Community.
The students wrote to An Garda Síochána and applied for the necessary fundraising permit. When that was granted, they created a sponsorship cards to record the monies raised.
“Although the fasting was a challenge for the students their sense of achievement on completion was worth it. They are a credit to themselves and to Rice College. A huge thank you to all those who sponsored the students and to the teachers who supported their endeavour,” said religion teacher Ellen Chambers.
