Dear Editor, The challenge of minimal vocations to the Catholic Church in Ireland is regrettable for us all, whatever our level of devotion might be. The humility of Pope Francis, Archbishops Diarmuid Martin, Eamon Martin and local priests is particularly welcome, after decades of hurt to congregations.
While it might be a big step to investigate the Lord's calling, I was fortunate in my late 30s to receive guidance from a number of religious orders and diocesan directors. Despite receiving great encouragement and support from all, it is, with sadness, as a gay man, that I do not feel that the Church could extend true love to welcome me in my lifetime.
Yours etc.,
Garry Malone,
Mullingar,
