This daisy chain makes a perfect summer gift

Summer time is coming and the grass is flecked with daisies just waiting to be picked and made into a daisy chain. Sadly, daisy chains never last long. By the end of the day, the beautiful necklace you carefully crafted has wilted and nearly fallen apart.

Crochet your own everlasting daisy chain to wear throughout the summer. Use white yarn for bright and fresh looking daisies or cream yarn for more of an old-fashioned, vintage look. This crocheted daisy chain is so fast and easy to make that after your first daisy you will be crocheting the rest as quickly as making a real daisy chain.

You will need: light weight crochet yarn in three colours, yellow, cream/white and green, 3mm crochet hook, scissors and a darning needle.

Ch = chain, ss = slip stitch, dc = double crochet

Starting with the yellow yarn, Ch3, join with ss in the first chain.

Round 1: Ch1, 5 dc in ring. Join with ss in the ch1 from beg of round. Fasten off.

Round 2: Join the cream or white yarn then ch8 and ss in same space as ss from last round. *Ss in next dc, ch8, ss in same space. ** Repeat from * to ** all around until you have six petals. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

For the stem, cast on the green yarn and make a chain of 70 to hold five daisies. Join into a ring in the very first chain and fasten off. Sew the daisies all around the chain.

Make more daisies and space them closer together for a fuller chain if you wish. Crochet the daisies in different colours such as blue, pink and orange for a funkier accessory.

Wear as a necklace or, wrap the chain a few times around your wrist for a bracelet. Make a shorter version of the chain and fasten off instead of joining into a ring. Use this as a bookmark.

Make the daisy chain longer and wrap a present with brown paper and tie with the daisy chain. Instead of making a chain, wrap green ribbon or yarn around a thin, plain hairband and glue the crocheted daisies along the top.

Leave the glue to dry completely before wearing.before wearing.
