Over 6,000 people from all over Ireland are expected to attend a pilgrimage to Knock this month to pray for the retention of the Eighth Amendment of the constitution.
Currently 23 Diocesan Eucharistic Adoration Committees, hundreds of parish Adoration Committees and others are organising transport to Knock on Sunday, April 29 to pray with the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, Phonsie Cullinan, for the protection of life.
John Howard, the national co-ordinator of the Apostolate of Eucharistic Adoration, said Irish people need to be “fully aware of the gravity” of the referendum which is set to be held on May 25, and that lay people, priests and religious are all invited to attend the pilgrimage.
“This is a life or death situation for thousands of unborn babies. They are depending on the good people of Ireland to defend them. It would be devastating for any of us to look back and say we could have done more,” he said.
There will be a parallel programme in place for children on the day facilitated by the Children of the Eucharist team, led by Antoinette Moynihan.
The theme is ‘The Family of Eucharistic Adoration’ and begins at 11am in St John’s Centre near the Basilica.
