Time for Christian Churches to unite

Dear Editor, Noting the further slip in the influence of the Catholic Church in this country, I feel that we are being prompted to “make all things new”.

The ‘new’ thinking could be to work more actively in bringing unity to the Christian Churches. Early enthusiasm for this work has waned. Each Christian Church has much to bring to the others. Our conditioning has caused us to dig in our heels as though many ancient Catholic teachings and practices were set in stone, which they are not. Exchange and change would be enriching.

If the Christian Churches were to listen to one another with humility and a sense of urgency of the situation, the Holy Spirit might grant us the great grace of uniting. “That they all may be one” is the prayer of He who is equally Lord to each of us.

Yours etc.,
