At the start of the month 5th and 6th class girls from St Joseph’s primary school, Templemore, Co. Tipperary along with their teacher Ms Greed, principal Ms Foley and chaplain Fr Dominic Meehan embarked on a ‘spiritual’ school tour to mark the jubilee Year of Mercy.
The day began with 10am parish Mass at Holycross Abbey followed by a tour of the abbey conducted by Tom Gallagher. From there the group travelled to Thurles where they were given a tour of St Patrick’s College (the former seminary, now teacher training college) by chaplain, Fr Joe Walsh. Then it was a quick dash across the road to the Cathedral of the Assumption to enter through the ‘Door of Mercy’ and follow the pilgrim route there which included a visit to the ‘Icon of Mercy’ at Our Lady’s Altar, the Baptismal Font and finally a visit to the beautiful chapel of Adoration where the Blessed Sacrament is exposed.
