We’re giving readers of The Irish Catholic the chance to attend an exclusive special preview screening of new Irish film on Knock Shrine, Strange Occurrences in a Small Irish Village, at Light House Cinema, Smithfield, Dublin on the evening of August 22.
In August 1879, 15 people in the small village of Knock, Co Mayo, claimed to witness an apparition of the Virgin Mary. After two official inquiries, the village was declared a Marian Shrine. Today, Knock’s 2,000 residents welcome over one million pilgrims annually.
From the filmmakers who brought you One Million Dubliners, Strange Occurrences in a Small Irish Village (cert PG) is an examination of the phenomenon of the Knock shrine and opens in cinemas August 26.
